You may not know the name Richard Brake, but you will almost certainly recognise the veteran character actor from the dozens and dozens of vile degenerate villains he's played across TV and film - such as Joe Chill in Batman Begins and Doom-Head in Rob Zombie's 31.

But Brake's highest-profile role is one you probably never even knew he played, because it required him to be totally transformed beyond any and all recognition.

Brake portrayed Game of Thrones' fearsome Big Bad, The Night King, in the show's fourth and fifth seasons, though couldn't return for season six due to scheduling conflicts and so the part was recast.

During his tenure on the show, Brake wore a prosthetic mask to transform his skin into an icicled mass of frozen flesh, and VFX were then used to colour his eyes blue and make his skin look even more grotesque.

This all ensured that Brake didn't look even remotely like the distinctive flesh-and-blood human he presents as in the vast majority of his acting work.
