First Role: Etta (Vengeance on Varos)

Second Role: Clara's Gran (The Time of the Doctor, Dark Water)

One of very few actresses to appear in both classic and modern Doctor Who, Sheila Reid's Whoniverse debut was in 1985's Sixth Doctor-led Vengeance on Varos.

Here, she played the role of Etta, a human citizen of Varos whose television tastes were... peculiar, to say the least: you see, on Varos, the execution and torture of dissidents was actually broadcast for people to watch. Delightful.

Reid then re-appeared on Doctor Who a whopping 28 years later, with a small role in The Time of the Doctor as Clara Oswald's Gran. Here, she took quite a liking to the Eleventh Doctor, due to him showing up for Christmas dinner bare-ass naked.

Reid also played this same role in Series 8's penultimate episode, Dark Water, comforting Clara shortly after Danny Pink's death.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
