Say it ain't so, right? Unfortunately, we can't: before Friends was even a thing and words like "Jennifer Aniston" and "Rachel" went together like that was the most natural thing in the world, Courtney Cox was originally brought in to play Rachel. Despite the fact that one could have probably argued that Rachel was the more interesting character of the two (on paper, at least), Cox felt that she was wrong for it, and went about trying to convince the producers that she would make a better Monica. And she was right, of course (at least - we hope!). But picture an alternative world in which Courtney Cox was cast as Rachel, and your brain starts to hurt - especially if you imagine that, for some reason, Jennifer Aniston ended up as Monica. Is this the stuff that nightmares are made of? Would we have eventually had to have watched Jennifer Aniston and Matthew Perry making out with one another for the last five seasons? Or Jennifer Aniston and David Schwimmer pretending to be brother and sister instead of destined lovers? But they're Ross and Rachel! Don't you get it?! THEY'RE ROSS AND RACHEL! Hey, hey! Wake up! You were just having a bad dream, old pal. Now, go on: there's probably a Friends episode playing on at least one channel somewhere. Found it? There we go. That's better, isn't it? Aren't you glad the casting went the way it did in the end? Yeah, us too. Us too. Like this article? Let us know in the comments section below.
