10 Actors You Didn't Know Were In Star Trek Twice
1. Penny Johnson Jerald
Benjamin Sisko's second wife, the smuggler Kassidy Yates first appeared in Deep Space Nine in the 1995 episode Family Business. However, this was Penny Johnson Jerald's second appearance in Star Trek, following Homeward from TNG's final season the previous year. Homeward introduced Worf's foster brother Nikolai Rozhenko, who was a cultural observer.
Nikolai's work had taken him to the planet Boraal II, where he broke the Federation's Prime Directive by becoming romantically involved with Dobara one of the Boraalans. This led to conflict with his brother Worf, and the crew of the Enterprise when he asked for their help in relocating the Boraalans before their planet was destroyed.
Dobara was played by Jerald, and was pregnant with Nikolai's child, another contravention of the Prime Directive. However, the Enterprise helped relocate the Boraalans to the uninhabited Vacca VI, which thanks to the ship's holodecks, they still believed to be their home planet. Worf helped his brother with the relocation before leaving him behind to live with his wife and unborn child.
It's unlikely that Jerald's minor, and ultimately quite forgettable role in Homeward had any bearing on her casting in DS9, but her connection to Star Trek would ultimately lead to her being cast in Seth MacFarlane's affectionate homage The Orville.
