10 Actors You Didn't Know Were In Star Trek Twice

2. Carel Struycken

Carel Struycken is instantly recognisable as Lurch from The Addams Family, the Fireman in Twin Peaks, and Arquillian in Men in Black. So it would be hard to miss the iconic Dutch actor in Star Trek. He appeared in five episodes of The Next Generation as Mr Homn, the valet to Lwaxanna Troi on her visits to the Enterprise.

So recognisable is Struycken's face that it would be impossible for the actor to play another character in Star Trek without some creative costuming or make-up. So it was when he was cast as the Spectre in the Star Trek: Voyager episode The Thaw from season 2. Also starring Better Call Saul's Michael McKean as The Clown, The Thaw finds the Voyager crew involved in a hallucinogenic computer program powered by fear.

The Spectre is described as a cross between Bigfoot and a rotting corpse and regularly suggesting The Clown take his frustrations out on his prisoners, he's a truly unnerving creation. Or would be if he wasn't dressed in a ridiculous carnival costume, which is in keeping with the general look of The Thaw. However, it's likely that this flowing and bulky costume was also to hide Struycken from being recognised by Star Trek fans as Mr Homn.
