10 All-Time Great Netflix Original Series
3. Stranger Things
Summoning monsters and all of the positive elements from 1980s family adventure films like ET: The Extraterrestial and The Goonies, Stranger Things is a dark, occasionally terrifying but ultimately charming show that feels both fresh and nostalgic at the same time. It feels almost like it combines the horror of Stephen King's darker works with the sentimentality of, say, Stand by Me.
A group of boys who spend their days dreaming up grand exploits in Dungeons and Dragons end up getting swept up into a real life adventure when one of their number disappears under peculiar circumstances, and a mysterious girl with powers shows up in their small town.
Stranger Things is creative, creepy, and immensely entertaining, but what really makes the show is its crew of incredibly talented young actors and the camaraderie they are able to effortlessly portray. In years to come, people will look back on Stranger Things and point at it as the show that launched the careers of actors like Millie Bobby Brown and Finn Wolfhard -- that's how strong their performances are here.
