Sure, season 2 may not have reached the dizzying heights of the first season, but Daredevil presents a uniquely high quality superhero show that manages to walk the line between the frequently cheesy humor of many Marvel films and the self-indulgent constant barrage of doom and gloom from the DC camp. After Ben Affleck's genuinely awful film version of Daredevil, it seemed for a long time that the blind vigilante was going to languish in the shadows while the major studios gorged themselves on endless remakes of Batman and Spider-Man and Superman.

But then Marvel teamed up with Netflix and concocted a grand scheme to find a home for Daredevil and the rest of the Defenders, a group of superheroes that are well-liked among comic book fans but also largely unknown among general audiences. Daredevil was the flagship of the mini-franchise, the one that needed to work for the rest of the plan to succeed. And, aside from a few minor issues, it really does.

Charlie Cox does some of his best work here as blind attorney Matt Murdoch who happens to moonlight as a masked vigilante, and the action sequences are gritty but endlessly creative in their choreography. Overall, the team behind Daredevil succeeds to the extent that they manage to launch a property from the brink of extinction into the mainstream.
