3. The 42 Year Old Virgin (S4E6)
Despite his reputation with his family and with the CIA as a cold blooded killer, Stan Smith had never actually killed anybody. He spent this entire episode trying to find the right person to be his first murder victim in a spoof of the 40 Year Old Virgin, before finally learning his lesson at the end.
There are a lot of episodes of American Dad! that end with the stubborn and pig-headed Stan learning a lesson, but viewers weren’t happy that this came by way of the paedophile that was trying to molest Steve at the water park.
The message of the episode was solid enough. Stan wasn’t a killer, and instead of trying so desperately to be someone he’s not, he should just accept who he is. However, this just didn’t sit right when framed by a paedophile having no remorse for his vile actions.
The depiction of Steve and his friends being groomed by Randy was enough for some to turn the TV off before even getting to the end of the episode, which is probably a good thing. The conclusion just made things even worse.
