No one likes experiencing pain, so having to deal with an entire century of it, with no knowledge as to when your torment will come to an end is a horrifying prospect. While the world of Bleach might have been filled to the brim with terrifying hollows and painful moments, this demise was one of the most shocking and uncomfortable.
Szayel Aporro Granz was a great antagonist, as his overly theatrical personality was fun despite his awful deeds. His death came at the hands of Miyuri, the captain of the 12th division in the Gotei 13. But, his demise would be more than just a simple puncture wound.
The climax of this battle came as Szayel revived himself through Mayuri's lieutenant Nemu, only to find that she'd been laced with a special drug. Mayuri revealed that Granz will now experience time far slower than it occurs, forcing a second to feel like an entire 100 years.
To add insult to this injury, he added more injury, by plunging a sword into Szayel's chest, which only took a second for him, but felt like an entire century of pain for Szayel. The fact that his descent to hell after this was less frightening says it all.
