Attack on Titan used to be a simple show about humans fighting giant beasts, but now it's a profound exploration of what it means to be human and more. The storyline surrounding the unfortunate Ymir acted as a pure example of how much things have changed.
Ymir began life as a nameless orphan wandering the streets until she was taken in by a cult under a false identity as one of Ymir Fritz's descendants. In this new position, she was worshipped, and life seemed to be heading in a good direction, that was until the cult was caught, and Ymir was sentenced to being converted into a pure titan.
She was injected with spinal fluid and sent to roam Paradis island, wandering aimlessly with little awareness or memory of her past life. Her barren existence and nightmarish circumstances as a pure titan lasted for an entire sixty years before she accidentally ate Marcell Galliard, the holder of the Jaw Titan.
The unlucky soul finally woke up from this nightmare, and while her life was anything but easy from then on, it must have been heaven compared to the sixty years of torture she had to endure.
