10 Anime That Are Way Better Than Their Titles Make Them Sound

7. R.O.D The TV

Jojo's Bizarre Adventure
Aniplex

The title standing for Read Or Die The TV, this anime's premise isn't as straightforward as others, but is one of the best Western-influenced titles from Japan nonetheless. In a world where "papermasters" with the ability to manipulate and shape paper by will exist, the story is a sequel to its previous OVA series, Read Or Die, placing three sisters as bodyguards to famous author Nenene Sumiregawa, their papermaster abilities saving her from some extreme assassination attempts.

Mixing elements of action thrillers and spy films with a low magic twist of paper manipulation and other strange abilities, with intrigue involving the shadowy British Library and their attempts to take over the world, this show is a genre bending, well-thought out, well-animated, action packed viewing experience.

Much of it is framed around the events of the first Read Or Die series (chronicling the work of secret agent and papermaster Yomiko Readman, Nenene's old friend) and the fallout of the British Library's dealings, and the show does well to slowly reveal its many mysteries and secrets.

With an excellent opening reminiscent of Cowboy Bebop's "Tank" and quiet, thoughtful moments to punctuate the action, this anime is worth the unique watching experience.
