4. Venus - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Ever wonder why there's no female ninja turtle? Well, there actually was for a brief time, but she was so bad and so painfully shoehorned in that nobody dares mention her. In Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation, a live action series loosely based on the feature films, a fifth turtle named Venus is introduced, a long lost sister of the gang (even though they aren't blood related in this show).

It was admirable to try to diversify the franchise and introduce a female character, but she just plain sucks. Venus wears a blue mask, but wait, isn't Leonardo's mask blue? Yes, but see, Venus' is light blue, which is way different. She also has her mask braided in the back like a ponytail, which looks dumb as hell.

Rather than Venus having grown up with the turtles, she just shows up one day and explains all this unnecessary backstory about growing up in China. Why? This is kind of a reboot, so why not just start the series with five turtles? Oh, and she doesn't even have a weapon. How lame is that? Venus was quickly dropped, and to this day, comic creator Peter Laird freaking despises her. Director of TMNT Kevin Munroe explained Laird demanded he not mention Venus at all in his movie. "You can’t even joke about that with Peter," he said. "It’s just one of those things that he hates with a passion."
