No series in recent history deserved a second season reprieve more than Hannibal. The criminally low-rated series captivated those of us that did see it, thanks to the chemistry of its two leads and the gruesome crimes that Will Graham investigated. One of those cases was that of the Chesapeake Ripper, a case which ties the fates of Graham, Hannibal Lecter and Jack Crawford together. Miriam Lass was a hotshot trainee who Crawford mentored and selected to aid him in his hunt for the Chesapeake Ripper- through flashbacks we discover the fate of Lass and are given a stern reminder of exactly how dangerous Lecter can be. Lass was clearly a competent investigator; the good progress she was making led her to consult with Hannibal at his office, but as the Doctor excused himself Miriam discovered a sketch which sealed her fate. The sketch ousted Lecter as the Chesapeake Ripper but before she could react Hannibal pounced. Miriam Lass could play a pivotal role the shows development; she has strong ties to Jack, was murdered by Lecter and her investigation has been continued by Will. These factors could lead to some serious fallout, if the series is given the chance to explore it properly.
