10 Awesome One-Off TV Characters

5. Clyde Bruckman €“ The X-Files

"Clyde Bruckman€™s Final Repose" is The X-Files at its monster of the week best; it was one of the shows best qualities that it could be so engrossing without focusing on the key mythology of the series. The late Peter Boyle plays the episodes title character €“ Clyde Bruckman €“ a man who possessed the psychic ability to see how others would die. Unlike The Stupendous Yappi, Bruckman led a fairly mundane life as an insurance salesman-but he eventually got the attention that he tried so hard to avoid. Peter Boyle's comedic talents are used in juxtaposition to the tragedy that surrounds the episode and the characters life. If he wanted, Bruckman could have the same level of fame and fortune as Yappi, but is too scared by the horrors that he see every day. As usual Mulder is the believer and Scully the sceptic, and Bruckman€™s assertion that Scully won€™t die is one of the most intriguing in the series. After helping Mulder and Scully capture the killer Bruckman commits suicide- the tragedy of this end solidifies the characters status as one of the great X-Files guest stars.
