4. Battlestar Galactica - There's Another Battlestar, And It's Not Run By The Good Guys
Yes, okay, so the infamous ending of this otherwise stellar revived series was so bad that Game of Thrones writer George R.R Martin (himself no stranger to controversial plot twists) wrote an open letter condemning its laziness and betrayal of long-time fans. But when Battlestar Galactica pulled off a twist, there’s no denying it managed to do so with panache and skill (at least in the better seasons, that is).
Just think of Pegasus, the mind blowing instalment which opened with the reveal that yes, another Battlestar still survived, meaning humanity still had some hope intact—then revealed that this ship’s crew, led by a ruthless Commander played by The Next Generation cast standout Michelle Forbes, not only outranked Adama, but ran a far tighter ship to say the least.
Upending the sympathies of viewers over and over again, this tense episode left viewers unsure where they stood in the morally grey universe of the show—an unsettling state of affairs which lingered until the show’s admittedly too cute and convenient series finale.
