10 Awesome TV Shows You Could Be Binging On Right Now

8. Buffy The Vampire Slayer

Fun fact: Joss Whedon actually wrote the critically dissed 1992 Buffy The Vampire Slayer movie, but hated the direction the movie took. So what do you do when you're in that situation? Make it an awesome TV show, full of wit and heart and stakes. Lots of stakes. And a musical episode, because, why not? The title "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" is fairly self-explanatory plot-wise. A teenaged girl is endowed with mystical, super-hero-like powers in order to slay vampires, demons and the forces of evil on behalf of humanity. Seems simple enough. In addition to that load, she has to deal with high school drama, friendship drama, family drama, and relationship drama. She also has a penchant for falling in love with vampires (along with the usual jerks one comes across). Early in the series, she encounters Angel, who has an unusual knowledge of all things demonic, and offers to help her, her Watcher (Giles), and her friends in their evil fighting . It turns out, Angel is a vampire who was cursed by gypsies with the return of his soul. With his vampire super powers and moral center both intact, he helps Buffy, and the two fall in love. But, spoiler alert, it cannot last (he's going to live forever and can't give her a normal life, all that jazz). But the series doesn't work because of the vampire gimmick that's been running rampant as of late. It works because the stories are compelling and relatable. Well, except for the actual vampire slaying. That part's not very relatable. Binging Advice: When Angel heads to LA for his spin-off, you can watch the two series concurrently. They were aired back-to-back originally, and there are some fun crossover tidbits that make more sense if you are at the same point in the timeline on each show. Full disclosure, Angel gets kind of weird. So if you would like to stay in the more 'grounded' world of Sunnydale, no one will judge you. If you do choose to only watch Buffy, do yourself a favor and watch season 1 of Angel, "I Will Remember You." Chronologically, it follows right after Angel comes to Sunnydale in season 4 of Buffy. You will cry your eyes out (but only if you have a soul). All 7 seasons of Buffy and all 5 seasons of Angel available on Netflix.
