10 Awful Characters From Otherwise Excellent TV Shows

1. Wesley Crusher- Star Trek: The Next Generation

wesley-crusher Now we arrive at the perennial favourite for fan hate, young Ensign Wesley Crusher. For such a beloved show TNG has an odd track record of crappy characters, nobody particularly cared when Tasha Yar met her abrupt end and most fans probably wished that Katherine Pulaski fell down an elevator shaft much like character on LA Law. Of course the majority of the fans ire was rightly reserved for the infamous Wesley Crusher, a character so annoying that even to this day people still hold a great deal of anger and resentment towards him. Perhaps the character trait displayed by Wesley that that invoked the most anger within the audience was his unfathomable ability to save the day, when no one else could. Let put that in perspective; Wesley Crusher was a teenage boy who was stationed on the best ship that the Federation had- on board that ship was Picard, Riker, Data and La Forge amongst others- the best and brightest minds in the Federation could not find a solution. Yet this kid, who spent most of his time on the show trying to get accepted into Starfleet Academy, found an answer when none of them could- repeatedly. Wesley always seemed to think he knew the right answer, not only about technical issues but diplomatic as well. If that wasn€™t bad enough, you had the issue of character development, or rather the complete lack of it. Every time it seemed that Wesley had an experience or a conversation with a member of the crew that would lead to him growing as a person, he reverted to being the same know it all kid that he was before. He was on a ship thats mission was to explore and learn, but he never did. Any chance he had to develop as acharacter, was thrown away when the next episode arrived. As the years have gone by Wesley€™s status as a hated character has been questioned by some due to the popularity that Wil Wheaton has found in the geek world- but make no mistake about it- Crusher more than deserved the hate. Picard tried time and again with the kid, but time and again he failed to learn and grow. I hate Wesley Crusher and you should too. So one more time, for old time€™s sake, shut up Wesley!
