2. Janice Soprano - The Sopranos
On a show that is full of crazy, chronic screw ups it takes a lot to stand out from the crowd. In truth if that alone was the criteria then this spot would belong to Christopher Moltisanti, however if only occasionally, Christopher showed something which displayed, that given the right circumstance he could be useful. The same cannot be said for Tony Sopranos older sister Janice. Tony had an uneasy relationship with virtually every member of his family, but it was his dealings with Janice that really made the viewer feel sorry for the guy. Considering the fact that his mother was an abusive shrew who put a hit out on him, that is actually quite an achievement. Janice suffers from a case of too good syndrome, she wants all the money that she can possibly get her hands on, but refuses to work for it, she constantly berates Tony but will run to him at the drop of a hat when she needs help. Worst of all she wants to be seen as the head of the family but the only person that Janice cares about, is Janice. To make matters worse she has knack for making horrible decisions when it comes to the men in her life- chief among the Richie Aprile- a guy who she encouraged to defy her brother, yet had to kill when he began to abuse her. This level of consistent selfishness made it hard to ever really warm to Janice, even when she did something that was seemingly nice there was a self-serving reason behind it. She was with Richie because she wanted to be a powerful mobsters wife and she tried to help Uncle Junior because she wanted his money. Even her claim that she had bonded with her dead husband Bobbys children suspect-due to the fact that they hated her- it is far more believable that she was after their inheritance. If Tony didnt meet his end in that diner, then it is more than likely that the stress of having to deal with Janice would have killed him eventually.
