10 Awful TV Shows With Incredible First Episodes

9. Heroes

Whenever the conversation turns to shows that should have ended after their first season, it’s never too long before somebody brings up Heroes. And what a first season it was, full of action-packed twists and turns fuelled by its characters as they fight to stop the shadowy Company from destroying the world.

This is all perfectly set up in the pilot episode, promising the audience the thrill ride of their lives as they witness everything from a mild-mannered officer worker in Tokyo discovering his time-bending abilities to a Texan high school cheerleader who can heal herself instantly. It all blends together to give the audience a tantalising taste of what this show is going to be and leaves them hooked for the next episode.

Unfortunately, as previously mentioned, Heroes should have quit while it was ahead. Pacing issues and a less gripping storyline dogged its second season and the ratings slipped as the review scores did, leading to it finally being put out of its misery after its fourth run of episodes.

The lukewarm reception to the 2015 reboot all but guarantees that Heroes stands as a cautionary tale to all writers thinking of milking another unnecessary series out of their acclaimed show.
