10 Most Awkward Moments In Modern Family

1. Kids Walk In On Phil And Claire Doing The Naughty

CaughtintheactEpisode: Caught in the Act In what has to be not only the most awkward moment in Modern Family so far in four and a half seasons but also one of the funniest, I present to you the Dunphy kids walking in on their parents having sex. Lets set the scene €“ it's Phil and Claire's anniversary and Haley, Alex, and Luke decide to make their parents breakfast in bed. But instead presenting their mom and dad with a special treat while Phil and Claire were still in bed, they walk in on the act of the special treat already being offered. The moment is so awkward and funny because it features within the first thirty seconds of the episode. The nightmare of any and all children is presented as the very first joke €“ it's so unexpected, and the responses by both parties just makes the hilariously cringe-worthy moment all the more embarrassing. Phil and Claire attempt to cover up as the kids scream and completely abandon the house as they contemplate what they just saw. As Haley, Alex, and Luke witness a moment that for the audience is in some way too real or at the very least too scary a possibility, the parents figure out how to confront their kids in their embarrassment. In the end, the kids realize it might be good thing their parents are still having sex, as it means they still love each other after so many years in contrast to their friends' parents, who are all getting divorced. However, this realisation still has comedy mileage and draws some awesome lines from the naïve Luke, who mentions that his dad had the same face he had when smelling a new car or that whatever their parents were doing, it seemed like their dad was winning. This story was made all the more awkward when the kids present their parents with a gift €” a sliding door lock that had the unforeseen effects of loudly locking and clicking, signifying every time the parents are about to have sex. It's just all sorts of disturbing, but funny to boot. So that's what I think. What do you think? Have I missed any moments out? Feel free to comment!
