10 Banned Anime From Around The World (And Why)

9. Mr. Osomatsu - Japan

As you can see from the image above, Mr Osomatsu is a charming and goofy series that follows a set of sextuplets harking about and causing mischief. It's an irreverent and seemingly harmless series that gives you a nice slice of fun. So, why did Japan ban its opening episode?

Well, it comes down to legality, as Japan's copyright laws are far stricter than in other countries. The series gets a lot of its humour from overt parodies, and while this might slide in other nations, it doesn't in Japan.

In the first episode, the boys discuss how they'll appeal to a modern audience, leading to them changing their style to suit popular shows like Attack on Titan, Naruto, Sailor Moon and more. This leads to some brilliant self-aware humour, but also a massive breach of Japan's laws.

Thankfully, since the series isn't banned in the traditional sense, residents of Japan can still watch most of it. But, the inaugural episode of this goofy show is a real treat, so it's a shame it suffered this fate.

Although, it does make you wonder how Gintama has managed to survive for so long.
