If you want to talk about the most popular (and bloody) anime titles on the market, then you'd be remiss to forget Tokyo Ghoul. This pulse-pounding series follows a young man named Kaneki who survives a Ghoul attack but becomes part Ghoul himself. Now, he must adjust to this new life. Sadly, if you live in China, you might never get to see it.

The show is filled to the brim with blood, guts and gore, which is one of the main reasons it's banned in China. The country is very specific about showcasing violence on screen, and seeing as this is one of the most iconic gore anime of all time, it's not a big surprise that it gets caught up in that. But, there's another reason why it got banned.

Alongside the brutal violence, the show has a character (Juuzou Suzuya) who has a nasty habit of sewing threads into their skin. China looked to this anime as a possible cause for the "human embroidery" trend which spread amongst teens in 2017, and thus, the show was considered a massive problem.
