While she has to settle for silver here, bratty witch Madison Montgomery is probably the best vessel Ryan Murphy has ever written for his searing, unique wit.

She’s such a great character, Murphy’s side project Scream Queens was basically a spin-off for her; Chanel is just Madison without the magic. Even without the starring role Scream Queens gave her, Emma Roberts is extraordinary in Coven. While she’s maybe not the greatest actress the show has ever seen, no one has come close to fitting their role quite as well as Roberts did here.

Sassy, egotistical and mean can often lead to writers shoehorning lazy insults in, with the character coming off as flat and false. However, in Madison, Roberts and Murphy combine brilliantly. ‘It’s so hot my freaking vagina is sweating’ is just one of her many quotable lines.

It’s no surprise that she was one of the first Coven witches back in Apocalypse, or that she got so much screen time. Though she has a harrowing and controversial beginning, when she’s back (surprise, b*tch), she grabs Coven’s spotlight with her B-plot.

While the main narrative of Coven casts her in a bit part, it wouldn’t be the same without her acid tongue.
