10 Best American Horror Story Characters

Lady Gaga’s role as Scathach earned her a spot in the hall of game in the worst characters list, but with The Countess she takes the gold. Gaga is currently winning acclaim for her fantastic performance as Ally in A Star Is Born, but her role in American Horror Story: Hotel was a real breakout moment for her.

The role netted her a Golden Globe in 2016, where she famously nudged Leo DiCaprio out of the way to grab her gong. Horror acting is a relatively rare winner at mainstream award shows, so recognition just goes to show how wonderful this performance was. The Countess’ high fashion, deadly allure certainly suited Gaga’s distinctive voice and she was a commanding, scene-stealing influence in every scene she was in.

The Countess is cultured and complex. When we’re first introduced to her, she seems to have control of every bloodsoaked moment of her life. But as the story unfolds, we see the tragedies that have scarred her, that have afflicted her.

American Horror Story has had scene stealers before, and it’s had rich characterisation before. But this is the best marriage between the two they’ve ever done.
