10 Best Anime Shows Of The Last Decade
4. My Hero Academia
If One Punch Man is a sarcastic and satirical look at the world of superheroes and powers, then My Hero Academia is a loving tribute to them. It's a series that genuinely adores its world, which makes it easy to invest in.
However, more than just the well-crafted setting, it has some awesome action-packed moments, fun characters, and an understanding of the superhero genre that makes it come across as a tribute, whilst still paving its own path.
My Hero Academia follows Izuku Midoriya, a superhero-loving kid who has no powers but still fights to enrol into the prestigious Hero Academy and become the figure he wants to be. In this world, everyone has a "quirk" (superpower) of some form, except for our protagonist. However, after a chance encounter, he is gifted with new and unbelievably powerful skills that help him get into the school.
The series won't exactly give you too many surprises, as it ultimately sticks to the standard formula of Shonen anime, but it does them so well and approaches the tropes from a unique perspective thanks to the setting.
Although superheroes may be a little over-saturated in the western market, there's still a tonne of joy to be had in seeing this particular depiction of the genre.
