10 Best Batman Beyond Episodes

Coming relatively late in Batman Beyond’s run, this episode shows us a different side to the villainous Inque as she reconnects with her daughter Deanna following a serious injury.

It keeps up the action with three distinct fight scenes, but it has a heart at the centre of it. Inque maintains her dark side as she battles with Batman, even convincing her daughter to break into the lab to steal the mutagen for her, but it also seems like she’s genuinely trying to grasp at having a real relationship.

That’s what makes the twist so juicy, with Deanna spiking the mutagen so she can take all of her mother’s money. The characters are established enough in such a short space of time that we’re able to feel for them at every turn, even by the end when a rich but lonely Deanna sits by her pool, she has some of our sympathies.

It doesn’t really suffer for a lack of Bruce Wayne, and that’s mainly because of Inque. With her fluid fighting style, she’s more entertaining than most of Batman’s foes in a one on one, and less Terry/Bruce interactions gives Inque and Deanna room to breathe.
