10 Best Character Arcs In Buffy The Vampire Slayer & Angel

2. Wesley Wyndam-Pryce

Watching Wesley during his third season stint on Buffy, it's almost impossible to comprehend where he ended up. Brought to Sunnydale as a replacement watcher for the recently-fired Giles, Wesley was pretentious, annoying, inexperienced and, on more than one occasion, dangerously ignorant and unprepared.

After Buffy, he ended up with Angel and Cordelia in L.A, where he joined Angel Investigations following the untimely death of Doyle. Though he still carried with him many of his usual irritating traits and hilarious ineptitude, it wasn't long before Angel's exploits began to rub off on him, and he became a strong, experienced and daring demon hunter.

In later seasons, he betrayed Angel after learning the vampire might kill his son, Connor, and had his throat cut after siding with the bad guys. His relationship with Angel remained strained for the rest of the show, and Wesley's injuries - paired with the fact all his friends abandoned him - caused him to toughen up more than ever before. After the death of Fred, he died trying to prevent the apocalypse.

His was not a happy arc by any stretch, but it was brilliantly realised and so deep it's impossible not to love.
