10 Best Christmas TV Episodes You Can Watch On Netflix
2. The Office - "Christmas Special Part 1 & 2"
The Office Christmas specials are in many ways a very non-traditional way to end the acclaimed series as David Brent is for much of the two-parter on his own separate quest. However, this allows his reunion with the other characters to be even more special as we are treated to Gareth helping him join a dating website, his constant dramatic clashes with Neil, and Brent ultimately standing up to Finchy.
In many ways the specials were written out of necessity as Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant did not want to write a third series of The Office but needed to tie up some loose ends and offer some resolution after the fairly open ended season two finale. The final two-parter offered plenty of iconic moments such as David Brent's cringe inducing rendition of Austin Powers and after a punishing two seasons of Tim and Dawn staring longingly at each other across the office we witness them get together.
While The Office - for the majority of its run - was almost a punishment in how unhappy and unfulfilled the lives of its characters were, these final episodes were the closest to a happy ending many would get. Brent finds temperamental happiness in his final date (it won't last though), Gareth is promoted to Brent's old job of general manager and in the middle of the office Christmas party to the sound of 'Only You' Tim and Dawn finally kiss. Only at Christmas could these miracles occur.
