10 Best Doctor Who Episodes For New Fans

1. The Eleventh Hour (2010)

With Matt Smith taking on the role of the new Doctor, a new companion in Amy Pond and Steven Moffat replacing Russell T Davies as showrunner, this episode was almost as much of a reboot as Rose. It was also crammed with everything the show is about. An alien invasion? Check. Mystery and suspense? Check. Action and comedy? Absolutely. A great timey-wimey twist? This episode has it in spades. Everything about this episode is fresh and exciting. Even those who became frustrated with the arc-heavy stories of the Eleventh Doctor's era cant deny that his introduction is one of the best new-Doctor stories in the show's history. Encountering Amy Pond as a young girl, he discovers a mysterious crack in her bedroom wall. After promising to be right back, however, he returns to her village several years later. Needless to say, his childhood visit has had a profound effect on a now adult Amy who joines him on his mission to uncover the mystery of Prisoner Zero. On its own, The Eleventh Hour kick starts later mysteries but still serves up a self contained tale with the anticipation for so much more. There are earlier Doctor introductions like Spearhead From Space and Robot or modern introductions in Rose, The Christmas Invasion and Deep Breath, but none have quite left their mark on the show's mythology like this tale. It reintroduces the Doctor to a new companion - and a new audience - and promises great things to come. Of course, after 51 years of timey-wimey adventures there are so many to choose from. These are just some of the suggestions for potential new fans. What episodes do you think capture the heart of what Doctor Who is? Let us know your choices in the comments below...
