10 Best Doctor Who Episodes For New Fans

10. Rose (2005)

The most obvious place to start is the introduction to the rebooted Doctor Who back in 2005. With the exception of the failed TV movie in 1996, Doctor Who had been off the air since for 16 years. It had to prove that it could be more than a nostalgic follow up to days gone by - a sci-fi show that could be as current and successful as its modern counterparts whilst reintroducing the concept of the Doctor, companion and travel through time and space. In one episode, Rose does all that. The Autons are a clever villain. Everyday objects - mannequins - becoming killer monsters is what Doctor Who is all about and this episode certainly doesn't scrimp on the action. Christopher Eccleston is a wonnderfully manic and mysterious Doctor from the go and Billie Piper's Rose is a wonder as the viewers' eyes into his weird and wonderful world. As she slowly learns about this mysterious man who saved her from death by killer shop dummies, so does the audience. Sure there are some rubbish bits - the wheelie bin of doom, for example - but overall the best was still to come. Right then, though, Doctor Who returned with all guns blazing and without this cracking opener, modern Doctor Who may not have go on to become bigger and more successful than ever.
