10 Best Doctor Who Episodes For New Fans

7. Tomb Of The Cybermen (1967)

So far this list has stayed fairly clear of the black and white episodes - not because there aren't any amazing ones, but because to someone who is only aware of the recent episodes of Nu Who - or the fast pace of modern television - these stories will probably come across as dated and very slow on the action. But, if you're still intrigued by all the hype surrounding the origins of Doctor Who, then the Second Doctor serial Tomb of Cyberman might be a thrilling place for you to start. Tomb of the Cybermen features the silver menaces at their very best. They remain an unseen threat during the first episode, building up the suspense until that first Cyberman appears in the test room, killing a hapless explorer. But it's when they emerge from their icy tombs that they become a truly terrifying threat. Silent, slow moving and yet completely ruthless, there is no question that they are capable of killing everyone in their sight. It is also wonderful to see the moments between the Second Doctor and his companion Victoria as she adjusts to a new era. The villains are proper villains too - Kaftan and Klieg want to use the Cyberman to enslave humanity. Simple as that. Add in the atmospheric score and this Doctor Who story is sure to stay with you for a long time. Overall, it's a story that has a great pace and plenty of thrills to boot. It also serves as a great introduction to the original Doctor Who. Perhaps if you love this, you might even be ready for the original introduction to Doctor Who, An Unearthly Child.
