10 Best Doctor Who Episodes Written By Russell T Davies
4. Doomsday
This is going to be hard one to write about. The episode in which the Daleks face off against the Cybermen for the first time in Who history will forever be remembered as the one that broke our hearts. For even though The Doctor and Rose work together to win the seemingly unwinnable battle, we are left utterly devastated when our friends are separated forever (or at least for a couple of seasons).
The episode crams in so, so much, and while in hindsight it would have benefit from an extra 15 minutes of runtime, every moment of this second season finale is perfect. From Jackie Tyler being reunited with Pete, the Doctor saving Rose and Micky, the horrifying reveal of the Dalek prison, and those 3-D glasses, every part of the story just works.
Davies makes us hate him for a brief moment when it looks like Rose Tyler will find herself stuck in the void, but then her long lost Father comes to save her and all is redeemed. The moment when Rose realises she will never see her one true love again is brilliantly acted by Piper, the tears rolling down our face as well as hers.
As for the beach scene, well way to dig the daggers in Russell! Sorry, just need to grab some more tissues.
