Odd considering their relative rareness in Doctor Who, there were three male companion figures introduced in the first series of the revived show in 2005. Firstly, there was Mickey (who featured earlier on this list), then computer genius Adam Mitchell (who most definitely does not feature on this list) and finally charming chisel-jawed conman Jack. Three guesses for who is the most popular? Funny, flirtatious and flamboyant, Captain Jack is something like you imagine the Doctor in an American version of the show would be. He's an experienced time traveller, with a similar knowledge and experience to the Doctor, but with a charisma all of his own. Jack's been through a lot in the Whoniverse - going from a carefree criminal to an immortal protector of the world - but he will always find time for a wink and a one-liner. As one of Doctor Who's most successful breakout characters, Captain Jack was of course so popular he got his own show in the form of the adult-orientated Torchwood. Though the show has been off air for a few years and he is yet to make a reappearance on its parent series, we have a feeling that Captain Jack, rather true to form, is not gone forever.
