Back in the Fifth Doctor's early days, the TARDIS was rather like a family home, with the Doctor as the parent of his three companions, including alien Nyssa and mouthy Australian Tegan. If the Doctor was dad then the stroppy teenager of the family was definitely Adric, a maths whizzkid from another universe. Adric's relationship with the rest of the TARDIS crew was at times testy as the boy could be arrogant and something of a know-it-all. But the crew were still very close ... until, in one of the show's most famous (to fans) moments, Adric died a hero's death whilst stopping the Cybermen from destroying Earth. Adric's death was strongly felt by his companions - he was mourned by the Fifth Doctor right up until his final moments (his last word was 'Adric...') - as well as by fans of the show and he has remained one of the most lamented of all the Doctor's friends.
