10 Best Episodes Of Prematurely Cancelled TV Shows
5. The Attic - Dollhouse
Dollhouse was a wonderfully intelligent show which just didn’t quite land. As well as possibly being too clever for its time, it felt in a way like it was too clever for its network, its audience and its cast, who all seemed to have signed up for a by the numbers TV drama - not a weird, mind-bending sci-fi saga which asked existential questions with every episode.
In the end, this meant low viewing figures, unimpressed Fox executives and occasionally some performances which fell below par for what the script asked of them. That said, it was still a great show and could have developed into something even greater if given a chance.
The Attic is just one example of this, as it reveals the mysterious place the Dollhouse keeps damaged or problematic employees. Here, they’re tortured in a state of constant terror, with the episode showing us Echo, Victor and Sierra sent there, as the Dollhouse fears their growing self awareness.
In there, they discover the deeper, nefarious purpose of the Attic, all while escaping a predator lurking within.
As you might have guessed, it’s not the only Joss Whedon show to make the cut here either.
