10 Best Episodes Of The Good Place

9. The Eternal Shreik - S1 E.7

The Good Place Bad Place Rhonda, Diana, Jake, And Trent
NBC

The genius of the first season of The Good Place can only be truly appreciated on a second viewing, and this is never clearer than watching this classic again. On first look the episode is an extremely dark comedy as Danson's Michael prepares for eternal damnation while Chidi and Eleanor weigh up 'killing' Janet. But there is actually so, so much more going on.

The real joy of this episode comes when viewing with the knowledge of the episode actually being set in the bad place. Every subtle putdown of Tahani carries extra weight and humour on repeat viewing, as does the flashbacks of Chidi's experiences with the notorious 'red boots', which is actually showing us the reasons he didn't get to the good place.

Another treat comes in the shock 'out of character' announcement by Eleanor that she is responsible for the Good Place's troubles. While Danson's reaction as Michael at the announcement seems a little off at first viewing, his angry glare makes so much more sense when we realise he's been a demon the whole time.
