This is the episode that contains 'the twist to end all twists', one that rivals The Sixth Sense in terms of its brilliant execution and game changing nature. It all starts innocently enough, flashbacks of Michael getting excited about taking the roll of chief architect for the first time, while the humans debate in the present time over who will go to hell and who will stay in The Good Place.

Then comes the bombshell that changes everything we know. As Eleanor comes to realise, they ain't in the Good Place at all, instead they'd been tortured all along. The deliciously villainous chuckle delivered by Danson to confirm the twist is note perfect, as is his subsequent characterisation of the 'real' Michael. The shocks and laughs keep coming too, with the reveals that all the humans are meant for the bad place, with Chidi's indecision and Tahani's impure motivations damning the both of them.

The reveals also meant there was no need to wait for the next season to come around, as a second viewing of the episodes was like a new season all in itself.
