10 Best Episodes Of True Detective
9. Now Am Found
This entry was inevitable, Now Am Found is the final episode in the season and quite possible forever. At the time of publication, there are currently no plans for True Detective to return to our screens. All good things must come to an end, and what an end it is.
Hays and West solve the case (or at least are told the truth), the links to the events of season one turn out to be unsubstantiated; a grieving, mentally deranged woman seeking a replacement for her lost child and with that, clarity and a clear(ish) conscience for the two detectives.
This series has consistently led the viewer in the wrong direction with a multitude of red herrings and the last episode is no exception. Writer Nic Pizzolatto finally gives us something we never expected - a happy ending. After 35 years of guilt, Hays receives clarity and a resolution to his life's work, his obsession, despite his failing memory. "Time is the school in which we learn" quotes his wife to a class of students, and perhaps this is the only justice for Julie, the missing girl, that she will ever know.
At the heart of True Detective lies the ‘human condition’ and the pain that lies, mistrust and of course, murder inflicts upon the world. Despite a desire for a fourth season, perhaps Now Am Found is the ending we deserve and just maybe Pizzolatto, unlike Hays, knows exactly the right time to quit.
