10 Best Futurama Guest Stars (Who Played Themselves)

In season four, Fry, Leela, and Bender went where no fan has gone before, a 30th century Star Trek convention hosted by Melllvar.

The guests of honour were the cast of Star Trek: The Original Series, Leonard Nimoy, William Shatner, George Takei, Nichelle Nichols, Walter Koenig, and Jonathan Frakes, before turning into a battle to the death.

Every actor was excellent in this episode, and was each given a moment to shine. Shatner’s hilarious line about respecting himself while directing, Koenig becoming a person after being an actor, and Nichelle Nichols making a sacrifice by kissing Shatner in the third season were particular highlights.

This wasn't the only appearance on Futurama for many of the group. Leonard Nimoy had appeared in the show as early as the pilot, welcoming Fry to the future. Nichelle Nicholls was part of Al Gore’s team that tried to keep Fry in the future in Anthology of Interest I. And, finally, George Takei has made numerous appearances throughout the show’s run.

Star Trek clearly had a huge impact on Futurama, and it’s wonderful to see the show paying homage to that which came before it.
