10 Best Halloween Themed TV Episodes You Have To See

Community was always the master of special episodes in which the show would adopt an entirely new format. Dan Harmon's series would suddenly become a space adventure, a war movie, or a mob film, so it makes sense that they had the best Halloween episodes on television. After all, the writers were already having the characters dress in crazy outfits and act like idiots every other week.

The show's best Halloween special by far was Epidemiology from Season 2. Although the previous year there was a pretty normal episode where the gang just throws a Halloween party, this time it's a spoof of zombie movies and horror in general. Harmon was always careful to not have these gimmicks break the show's universe, though, and so the zombies that suddenly attack Greendale aren't really zombies; they're just students with really bad food poisoning.

Still, Epidemiology takes on every zombie film convention, from holding up in one room to having everyone turn on each other and accuse their peers of being infected. It even expands beyond zombie movies to spoof horror tropes in general, as in a brilliant scene where a cat just won't stop jumping out to scare people. It's funny, festive, and actually says something about the horror genre. If you're wondering why Community has such a passionate fanbase, episodes like these are the reason.
