10 Best Halloween Themed TV Episodes You Have To See

2. Treehouse Of Horror V - The Simpsons

It's impossible to discuss Halloween episodes without bringing up Treehouse of Horror, the annual anthology tradition which is still worth tuning in for even if you've stopped watching the series.

Probably the most consistent and memorable of the many outings is Treehouse of Horror V from Season 6. The first segment kicks things off with an absolutely brilliant parody of The Shining, in this case called The Shinning to avoid lawsuits. It's a hilarious spoof of the movie and of horror tropes, as with the scene where there's a long buildup to Marge looking at Homer's typewriter, only for him to have written "Feelin' fine" just once. Later, having to watch the Tony Awards makes Homer more angry than ever. The second segment is a super strange parody of A Sound of Thunder where Homer accidentally turns his toaster into a time machine and experiences the butterfly effect first hand. Finally, there's a Soylent Green spoof where kids are being served as food in the school cafeteria, and for some reason they name all the meals after the kids because that's not at all suspicious.

Treehouse of Horror V is The Simpsons at its best, a delightfully spooky and funny half hour that deconstructs horror stories and is everything a Halloween special can be.
