It's hard to believe a show about the Korean war had a Halloween episode, but that's M*A*S*H for you. In the 11th season, it's time for the 4077th's annual Halloween party (even though we've never seen one before in the previous ten seasons). The festivities are interrupted when a bunch of wounded soldiers arrive needing to be operated on, and one young man has already been declared dead.

While in the operating room, the doctors tell spooky ghost stories, including one from Hawkeye about a ghost ship that lead his uncle home from sea one night. Meanwhile, it's revealed that the soldier who was declared dead is actually still alive, yet everyone is too busy to notice. Will somebody figure it out before it's too late? What could be more scary than being alive but everyone thinking you're dead?

Trick Or Treatment is basically just a normal M*A*S*H episode where it happens to be Halloween, yet it's also a reminder of how silly supernatural horrors seem in the face of the real horrors of war. Like the rest of the series, the episode is funny but dark as hell, and it's worth rewatching if only for the novelty of seeing Hawkeye operate on soldiers while dressed as Superman. That said, they sure did drop the ball by not calling the episode Monster M*A*S*H.
