10 Best Horror TV Shows Of 2024

8. Them: The Scare

Parasyte: The Grey
Amazon Prime

You couldn't be blamed for giving the second season of horror anthology series Them a wide berth after the rather mixed bag of a first, but rest assured, season two is a massive improvement.

Set almost 40 years after the first season, The Scare takes place in 1991 Los Angeles, as LAPD Detective Dawn Reeve (Deborah Ayorinde) investigates a grisly murder to which there's far more than meets the eye.

Scaling back the outrageous violence that proved polarising in its first season while still rocking a fair mean streak, The Scare feels like a more considered revision that benefits from potent social commentary on institutional racism and generational trauma. All of this is shot through by the superb efforts of a crackerjack cast, with Ayorinde being joined by the likes of Luke James, Joshua J. Williams, and the legendary Pam Grier.

A much sturdier second season, The Scare gets the promising series back on track, though at present it remains to be seen whether or not Amazon will take a punt on a third batch of episodes.
