7. Hysteria!
The deliciously entertaining Hysteria! is a razor-sharp takedown of the Satanic Panic that swept 1980s America, centered around a beloved quarterback who goes missing and the apparent occult activity taking place in the sleepy town of Happy Hollow, Michigan.
This hilariously prompts a struggling metal band, Dethkrunch, to rebrand themselves as a Satanic metal outfit in order to exploit the commotion, only for a spate of supposedly supernatural phenomena to descend upon the town for real.
Hysteria! weaves a compelling mystery and has a firm handle on its tone, but the real treat here is the superb cast, with the marketing understandably focusing on Bruce Campbell's supporting part as police chief Ben Dandridge. Campbell's also joined by the thoroughly game likes of Anna Camp, Julie Bowen, Garret Dillahunt, and many more, which, combined with the slick direction, cracking soundtrack, and timely social commentary about the nature of mob mentality, ensures Hysteria! is both fun and thrilling.
At the time of press a second season hasn't yet been confirmed, but here's hoping.
