10 Best It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia Episodes

Grab a tasty rum-ham as we go through a list of the best episodes of Always Sunny.

The Nightman Cometh
FX

The average sitcom tends to run either way too long or too short, and thus far, It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia seems to be hitting the perfect spot. While not quite being in its peak anymore - although Dennis might disagree and say, "It hasn't even begun to peak" - the show is still very consistent and has not overstayed its welcome.

The characters are some of the most deprived people we have seen on screen, and thanks to this, the series has featured many shocking and hilarious moments that set it apart from other shows. Its deliberate efforts to show us jokes and scenarios unfamiliar to the sitcom formula are likely what keeps it so fun, despite its rather lengthy run.

With so many years on air, so many classic seasons and so many reinventions, it's not an easy show to whittle down to the ten best episodes. Consequently, entries on this list are informed by a combination of IMDB episode ratings, general internet receptions, and my personal opinion.

A minor spoiler warning is in effect, as this list will discuss some plot elements of the episodes featured.

10. Sweet Dee Dates A Re*****d Person

The Nightman Cometh
FX

This episode tops the list for being one of the most accurate depictions of the show's core identity, that being risqué humour that challenges social norms. The first plot sees Sweet Dee addressing the possibility that her boyfriend, Lil Kev, may have severe learning difficulties. The second is the rest of the gang attempting to make a band, and as you would expect, having a lot of creative disputes.

This episode is the first time we get to experience the musical talent of Charlie Day. Day is a truly unique performer, and his ability to play multiple instruments while singing brings some humorous moments to the episode. The biggest is the creation of the iconic Day Man song, which would become one of the show's most popular signatures.

While the music-making plot is an ample reason for this episode ranking in the top ten, the storyline with Dee also helps bring it up. It is a perfect Always Sunny recipe for comedy, taking one of the characters and placing them in an uncomfortable scenario, but one that any sensible person could fix. The ending too lets every member of the gang receive their punishment for the selfish behaviour they have displayed throughout the runtime.
