10 Best It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia Episodes
9. The Gang Tries Desperately To Win An Award
Despite being one of the biggest comedies on television, Always Sunny has seen barely any award show recognition. Three Emmy nominations, all for stunt coordination, are the only notable chances they've had for television's biggest prize. It does seem understandable, as it's designed to be provocative and in poor taste.
The show itself has something to say about this. In this episode, we see the owners of Paddy's pub attempt to change their identity to sway the best bar award voters to give them a chance at winning the prize. As expected, all of their efforts fall short, as they cannot contain the darkness hidden beneath the surface.
Their attempts are ruined by mistimed jokes, a depraved show from Frank, and an intoxicated Charlie delivering yet another musical gift. This meta episode shows how by creating such a unique identity for themselves, they have had to sacrifice mainstream recognition.
Finally, one of the episode's biggest highlights is the involvement of actor Oscar Nunez, known for his time on the hit show The Office. Oscar being there adds the perfect cherry on top of this meta-narrative as it directly compares the show to another that has seen plenty of attention from the organisations the gang are trying so desperately to please.
