10 Best Lost Plot Twists

9. Alex's Death

Lost Jack
ABC

From his initial masquerade as Henry Gale, to his ability to weasel out of imprisonment in Locke’s camp, Ben Linus had a lie, excuse or plan for every occasion. Thanks to his thorough knowledge of the Kahana’s crew and their agenda, it seemed that he would be able to outwit and frustrate their attempts to capture him. So it was both shocking and heartbreaking when Ben was finally confronted with a situation that he couldn’t manipulate, as his adopted (or rather abducted) daughter Alex was captured by Martin Keamy’s mercenary team, and Ben was given ten seconds to surrender if he wanted her to live.

True to form, Ben attempted to bluff his way out, claiming that Alex was merely a pawn and meant nothing to him, rounding off by stating that if Keamy wanted to kill Alex, he should “go ahead and do it” - to which Keamy responded by simply shooting Alex in the head.

Ben’s stunned, horrified response showed very clearly that he had once again been lying, and would never be able to take back the cruel words that were his daughter’s last memory.

Alex’s death would be a defining event for Ben, leaving him with dreadful guilt and a thirst for vengeance that would have huge ramifications. It also further humanised one of Lost’s most unsympathetic and untrustworthy characters in a way that would previously have been unthinkable.
