Nothing is a sure thing in the film and television industry, but if you had to pick some heavy hitters that might do the trick, you could do a lot worse than Neil Patrick Harris and TV legend Darren Star, known for creating Beverly Hills, 90210, Melrose Place, Sex and the City, and Emily in Paris.

Though Star has produced nothing but slam dunks - well, in terms of what he can get renewed, not in terms of quality - the veteran could only get one season of Uncoupled ordered by Netflix.

Uncoupled has an intriguing premise that revolves around a man, played by NPH, trying to put his life back together after his partner of 17 years leaves him abruptly. The show follows him navigating the dating scene with a tone that hits a clever balance between comedic and earnest. While it isn’t pushing the envelope particularly, the show received praise for its pacing, genuinely funny gags, and vibrant New York setting. Despite earning a certified fresh rating of 73% on Rotten Tomatoes and similarly impressing audiences, Netflix canned the show.

I’ve got a happy ending for you on this one, though, because Showtime announced they’ll be picking it up for Season 2. Yes, I played this entry a little sneaky with the title, but I feel like we all needed the good news.
