Another victim of pandemic production costs and low viewership numbers, Grand Army came out in 2020 and follows a ground of school students at a Brooklyn high school.

The show won fans for its complex characters and willingness to take on challenging themes, but lost some of its audience due to its inconsistent pacing. Its commendable interest in dealing with real world social and political issues set Grandy Army apart from the oversaturated teen drama market, however, and left plenty of people disappointed when it was announced its ninth episode would be its last. The show is loosely based on Katie Cappiello’s 2013 play Slut, which dealt with serious issues that often affect adolescents. Unfortunately, the show was also riddled with controversy, with multiple writers leaving the project after racist exploitation and abuse allegations.

Plenty of plot threads were left hanging and ultimately fans had to deal with just one more one-season wonder to bury in the Netflix show cemetery.
