8. Eden - The Handmaid's Tale
The Handmaid's Tale changed things up during the second season when Commander Waterford introduced Nick to his soon-to-be wife, Eden. Viewers immediately took a dislike to the character, because her presence was yet another reason why June and Nick couldn't be together.
The excellent writing fooled us all into thinking the 15-year-old girl was going to be a threat to our protagonist, but this was not the case at all. Underneath the facade of the well-behaved Gilead servant was a scared little girl, who wanted nothing more than to fall in love and live in peace and harmony.
By the end of the season, Eden had us all rooting for her, as she proved herself to be a strong warrior - unwilling to let the cruel world of Gilead break her. She is one of this year's best examples of the benefits of long-form character development. Over the course of the season, viewers altered their opinions and fell in love with Eden, which is what ultimately made her demise so heart-breaking.
